Snapshot:
We are looking to hire an Associate Employment Counsel to join our Legal Team. In this role, you will advise on employment-related legal issues, including hiring, performance management, people & culture initiatives, diversity, equality and inclusion efforts, investigations, disciplinary actions, reorganisations, terminations, contingent workforce issues, employee privacy, litigation and transactional-related issues. You will also work closely with outside counsel to ensure compliance with employment laws across multiple jurisdictions.
The Role:
- Advise all areas of the company on employment issues, including working closely with our People team and Employee Relations partners on: performance management; employment law claims; terminations; recruiting; hiring; compensation and benefits; performance reviews; performance improvement plans; and employee and contractor classification questions.
- Draft employment guidelines, contracts and policies, and create procedures and process efficiencies.
- Stay abreast of changes to employment law and propose changes to employment-related templates, including employment contracts, employee handbooks, employment policies, separation agreements, and contingent workforce issues.
- Provide training to the company on relevant employment-related areas.
- Advise on privacy-related employment matters, including responding to subject access requests.
- Advise on internal investigations concerning potential conflicts of interest, financial misconduct, code of conduct issues or other violations of internal DeepMind policies.
- Ensure compliance with employment laws in DeepMind’s international offices.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience in private practice and/or an in-house team.
- Qualified solicitor in England and Wales (preferred).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior in-house experience at a technology and/or research development organisation working side by side with the wider company to counsel on a variety of employment-related legal issues.
- Interest or experience in innovative technology, including in the field of artificial intelligence research or deployment of machine learning systems.
