Birdie is growing at an incredible pace and our ambition is to grow even faster. This means that our analytics platform needs to do the same, which means handling: -

• More data to analyse, both in terms of number of sources and volume (our data footprint doubles every quarter).
• More users analysing data, both number of people and variety of roles.
• More ways to embed analytics into the working enviroment.

Your mission will be to scale analytics at Birdie so that everyone has access to the right data in the right place to make timely, data informed decisions that will ultimately help to re-invent care.

Requirements

🦸‍♀️ How you will contribute

You will be responsibile for enabling Birdie's analytics platform to scale for more data, more users and more ways to access analytics (and to scale in a way which is sustainable in-terms of cost and maintenance). There are three user groups which will need your support:

1. Our commercial teams need to consume a growing number of analytical results directly in the tools they use every day so that they can be as efficient as humanly possible. For example, the marketing & sales team need accurate and up to date information on prospective partners so they can make informed decisions about who to talk to and how to talk to them. The product marketing team need detailed statistics on how care managers and carers are using Birdie so they can highlight underused features to them. You're role will be to develop reliable, low maintainance integrations which put the right data, in the right tool at the right time.
2. Product delivery squads need to be able to understand adoption of new features and their long term benefits for customers. Instead of building a large centralised analytics team our strategy is to create a data mesh between squads. Your role will be to empower the squads with tools, training and documentation to enable them to rapidly develop and share their own metrics and user segmentations.
3. Our care partners are already consuming statistics about their organisation's performance directly from the Birdie Analytics portal. It's a growing number of users but only a small portion of all Birdie users currently have access to the portal. Our ambition is for all users to have access to performance analytics so that we're making the most of all the data Birdie collects. You will help to develop a low cost embedded analytics solution which enables product squads to put analytics directly in Birdie products.

As you can see there's a lot of big technical challenges to solve - you'll be working closely with the BI Lead to decide on the most valuable things to work on. You'll also be collaborating with a wide array of people to help you shape the solutions - from commercial data champions & product analysts to data engineers & infrastructure engineers.

Experience

• At least 2 years experience working in a business intelligence, analytics engineering or data engineering role.

Profile

• Passionate about solving big problems - you will need detemination and resilience to take on problems where solutions are not immediately apparent.
  
• Passionate about enabling others - there are just too many important questions to look into at Birdie, it is essential you can give others the power to create their own analysis.
• Mad about data quality - we strive to build absolute trust in data. You'll need to be an expert in things like test driven development and regression testing to catch data bugs early.
• Obsessed with efficiency - there is always room for improvement. You will need to find opportunities to help teams work smarter.
• Great planner - to make balanced decisions about what to work on you'll need to accurately estimate the time investment required for potential projects.
• Not afraid to challenge - we value people with passion who will speak up on behalf on the solutions they believe in, even if it's against group consensus.

Technical Know-How

• Highly proficient at creating intuitive self-serve analytics tools (we use Looker at Birdie but experience with Tableau, QlikView, Power BI etc. is also relevant).
• Skilled at building integrations between APIs and data sources/sinks (good knowledge of Python is a must, knowledge of singer.io is a plus).
• Expert at modelling data in SQL (experience of DBT preferable). Good understanding of ELT/ETL processes.
• Experience with working with cloud data platforms and data warehouses (ideally Snowflake but could also be Google BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, or Databricks lakehouse).
• Experience using version control and continuous integration to drive code quality.
