Position Summary
We are seeking a talented Senior Software Engineer to join the software engineering team in Karius’s engineering department. Tasked with taking our software solutions to the next level, we believe the success of Karius’s products is driven by both our unique technology and the excellence of the software solution. We seek talented and passionate individuals who want to be part of this impactful journey reaching the team’s ambitious goals, far beyond what any single individual could accomplish.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will primarily focus on developing and maintaining software for Lab Information Management, and backend software for web applications used by physicians and researchers to access genomic-based diagnostic information in the process of treating patients with infections or developing new therapies for such diseases. You will be responsible to follow and shape practices, document your chosen solutions and software design, and mentor new team members as they join.

Primary Responsibilities

• Translate product feature requirements to software specification.
• Document your software design and present it to your group.
• Write well designed, testable, and efficient code, and work with the engineering team to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Be responsible for the quality of deliverables, from implementing unit testing to participating in quality assurance and control processes and technologies.
• Troubleshoot and fix reported customer issues.
• Investigate alternative solutions for continuous improvement and present them for review.

Physical Requirements
Subject to extended periods of sitting and/or standing, vision to monitor and moderate noise levels. Work is generally performed in an office, lab or clinical environment.
Position Requirements
• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Bio-Engineering or related technical fields, plus 3 years of related experience.
• 5 years of software engineering experience, including designing, developing, and maintaining backend software in a production environment.
Knowledge and hands on experience with:
• Cloud (AWS preferred)
• Java and Spring Boot
• Docker container and Kubernetes
• CI/CD
• Database, SQL, ORM (JPA)
• Software testing
• Microservice design patterns
• API design and testing
• Authentication and authorization systems and standards
• Experience developing applications in regulated environments such as healthcare and life sciences is a big plus.
